Grateful for the Opportunity

Minnesota’s longest serving Congressman, Former U.S. Representative James “Jim” Oberstar, passed in his sleep early Saturday morning, May 3. Oberstar served as a representative for northern Minnesota for 36 years which included 18 terms from 1975-2011. Oberstar is survived by his wife, Jean, four children and eight grandchildren.

Oberstar’s passing was heartbreaking news for family, friends, and colleagues as well as HeiTech Services, Inc. President/CEO Heidi Gerding. Oberstar afforded Gerding an incredible opportunity – her ‘principal’ nomination to the United States Naval Academy.

“I will forever be grateful to Jim for offering me my ‘principal’ nomination to the U.S. Naval Academy,” stated Gerding. “This affirmation of my ability to get through one of the most prestigious academic institutions in this country followed by serving my country as a Naval Officer set the path for me do great things and pay it forward to others.”

Gerding added, “I will never forget Jim and the opportunity he afforded me at such a young age. If not for this pivotal moment in my life, I would not have been able to serve my country successfully, meet my husband, have four incredible children, and then start a business whose mission is ‘to help the Government keep Americans safe’. Thank you Jim and may you rest in peace.”

HeiTech Services, Inc. and its staff sends its thoughts and prayers to the Oberstar family and everyone impacted by the passing this wonderful man.
