Continuing a Tradition: Gerding, HeiTech Services Lend Support to King’s College Students

Washington, D.C. – HeiTech Services continued its tradition and support for the King’s College (King’s) Career Day in Washington, D.C. The annual Career Day was sponsored by King’s Washington, D.C., Area Alumni Club (KWAC) and held in the nation’s capital this past fall. King’s is a Catholic institution of higher education in Wilkes-Barre, PA animated and guided by the Congregation of Holy Cross. Forty-eight King’s College students attended this year’s Career Day at Lowenstein Sandler LLP.

Students attended career presentations, more than half of which were given by King’s alumni working in the Washington, D.C. area. Students then had an opportunity to participate in breakout sessions to conduct more concentrated discussions on their career. A sampling of general topics covered included government ethics, investing, financial services, applying for federal jobs, resume and interview pointers, careers in health care and the FBI, and how to get started in government and politics.

HeiTech Services CEO, Heidi Gerding, hosted two Kings College students at her home the night before the Career Day event. Gerding was introduced to the students at a reception the night prior hosted by Jones Day in Washington D.C. This is a tradition for Gerding to host King’s students, a role she has enjoyed for many years in support of the annual event.

In addition to Heidi’s support, HeiTech Services maintained an active role in lending support to students at King’s annual Career Day. Craig Hackett (Chief Human Capital Officer), Katie Jonas (Employee Engagement Manager), Lisa Smith (Human Resources Manager), and Jace Van Sylk (Recruiter) provided constructive feedback to each of the 48 students on their resumes, including information on how to improve them to ensure that their qualifications and experience stand out among their peers. Hackett also delivered a presentation to the students about resume preparation and interviewing do’s and don’ts. Jonas spoke to the group about what to expect after graduation and different paths at their disposal.

The King’s College Alumni Club of the Washington Area commended Heidi and the HeiTech team on its efforts and participation stating, “Your continued willingness to provide financial support and share your valuable time, and the time of others at HeiTech Services, with the students was a great example of the “giving back” culture King’s fosters. Craig’s presentation was again a terrific hit and, although we missed Jim, Katie did an admirable job filling in! As a result of your round table discussions, as well as that of the other speakers, the students returned to the campus a lot wiser and more confident than they were when they arrived. Your careful attention to their resumes is much appreciated.”
