Veteran-Owned Business

Heidi Gerding is a 1983 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. As the first female graduate from the state of Minnesota and in the fourth graduating class of women from the Naval Academy, she proudly accepted her appointment from the Honorable James Oberstar (D). She maintains contact with Congressman Oberstar, always respecting the man who gave her an opportunity of a lifetime.

Ms. Gerding's naval career spanned nearly ten years at a time when a woman's role in the service was often seen to challenge customary naval practice. Her career was highlighted by some assignments untraditional for a woman, such as leading a Mobile Mine Assembly Group in Charleston, SC. In her last assignment, she fought against ignorance and prejudice in the Navy as the officer responsible for the administration of the Department of the Navy's HIV-AIDS policy in Washington, D.C. As a manpower and personnel officer to the Chief of Naval Personnel and advisor to the Secretary of the Navy, Ms. Gerding was able to have a positive effect on the lives of thousands of sailors and marines who were infected with HIV, and their families.

After leaving active duty, Ms. Gerding served with the Prisoners of War/Missing in Action office within the Bureau of Naval Personnel. She is currently serving in the Reserves. Ms. Gerding was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal.

Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business

President and CEO Heidi Gerding received notification from the Veteran’s Administration that she has been approved for service connected compensation benefits. As such, HeiTech Services, of which she is the majority owner, is now designated as a service-disabled veteran owned small business (SDVOSB). The SDVOSB is retroactive to November 15, 2004, when her original claim was submitted.
