HeiTech Services Processes COBRA Appeals

The U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) recently contracted with HeiTech Services to provide support for their COBRA Appeals Processing. This recent contract is a result of additional health benefit funding provided under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). Under ARRA, eligible laid-off workers will be entitled to receive extended health benefits with a 65% reduction of their COBRA premiums for up to 9 months.

Under this contract, HeiTech Services will provide application processing support to EBSA’s COBRA Appeals Processing Center for individuals who are appealing denial of COBRA coverage. Responsibilities will include managing and staffing the COBRA Appeals Processing Center, processing incoming and outgoing mail, performing data entry, and overseeing file operations. Additionally, an initial assessment of each application for completeness will be conducted to determine whether or not applicants meet minimum eligibility requirements, and recommendations for final determinations will be provided. DOL is currently estimating approximately 5,000 applications will be received and processed each month.

“We are pleased to assist the Department in processing these applications in a timely manner and help the many individuals and families in need of ESBA’s services and COBRA program,” states Anna Goddard, Vice President of Management Consulting & Program Support. “Through our accurate and efficient processing of COBRA appeals applications, HeiTech Services can help bridge the gaps in health coverage for thousands of individuals in need of these benefits and help ensure DOL continues to provide quality service to the American public.”

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Honors HeiTech Services

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Center for Veterans Enterprise (CVE) recognizes HeiTech Services and its President/CEO, Heidi Gerding, with the 2008 Enterprising Veteran Award. Each year, CVE presents this prestigious award to an individual who displays exemplary leadership skills in promoting opportunities for all veterans, including those who are service-disabled. The Enterprising Veteran award represents CVE’s highest honor.

As a service-disabled veteran of the U.S. Navy, Ms. Gerding has a personal desire to see all veterans succeed. She encourages others to hire veterans and support veterans’ programs; she also employs these practices within her own company. Ms. Gerding works hard to provide opportunities for transitioning veterans seeking employment and disabled veterans who rely on others for their care.

While Ms. Gerding is an advocate for all veterans, her personal passion is for the veteran business owner. She loves to mentor entrepreneurial veterans. Ms. Gerding has invested corporate resources, as well as her personal time and energy, to provide guidance and support for growing veteran-owned small businesses (VOSB). She shares lessons-learned, provides 1:1 counseling, and facilitates the development of strong banking, legal and accounting business relationships.

Heidi Gerding recognizes that she cannot touch every single veteran with her mentoring and advocacy efforts, so she focuses on a small group of veterans and veteran-owned businesses. This year, those and other efforts have not gone unnoticed. Ms. Gerding will be recognized as the 2008 Enterprising Veteran on June 12, 2008.
