Inc. magazine today ranked HeiTech Services No. 729 on its fourth annual Inc. 5000, an exclusive ranking of the nation's fastest-growing private companies. The list represents the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy—America’s independent-minded entrepreneurs. 2010 marks the fourth consecutive year HeiTech Services has been named to this prestigious list. By coming in at No. 729 this year with a three-year sales growth of 419%, HeiTech Services moved up 681 spots from its 2009 position (No. 1,410), and an overall, 2,361 spots from its debut on the inaugural list in 2007 (No. 3,090).

The 2010 Inc. 500|5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2006 to 2009. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by June 30, 2006. Additionally, they had to be based in the United States, privately held, for profit, and independent—not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies—as of December 31, 2009. The minimum revenue required for 2006 is $80,000; the minimum for 2009 is $2 million. The top 10 percent of companies on the list constitute the Inc. 500, now in its 29th year.

The 2010 Inc. 5000, unveiled today on Inc.com, serves as a unique illustration of the profound changes taking place in the U.S. economy. The Government Services sector showed the biggest gain in terms of the number of companies on the list, up 33 percent from last year to 335 companies. Government Services was also the second-fastest-growing sector in terms of median revenue growth, posting a 202 percent gain over the 2006-2009 measuring period. More than half of these companies are based in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

In addition to being named to this year’s Inc. 5000 list, HeiTech Services was recognized on two additional top lists within the Inc. 5000. HeiTech Services, Inc. was recognized as one of the top 100 companies owned by service-disabled veterans contracting with the federal government in fiscal 2009. This acknowledgment was published in the May 24, 2010 issue of Federal Times, which ranked HeiTech Services at number 50 on its list with 2009 spending of $27.4M.

According to an accompanying article about service-disabled veteran owned businesses, the government has increased its contracting with businesses owned by service-disabled veterans to 1.8 percent of awards in 2009 from 0.5 percent of awards in 2005. Although this figure has more than tripled since 2005, it falls well short of the 3 percent government-wide goal.

The list and rankings were based on USASpending.gov data drawn May 17. The total awards to the top 100 contractors ($4.3B), represented nearly 50 percent of the total awards ($9.5B).

Ms. Gerding's Navy career spanned nearly ten years during a time period in our country's history when being an Academy graduate, a Naval officer, and a woman challenged established tradition. On Friday, June 18, 2010 President and CEO Heidi Gerding was named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year® 2010 award winner for the Business Services category in Maryland. Executive Vice President James Clement was in attendance at the special gala event, held at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront, and accepted the award on her behalf. Gerding was unable to attend the special gala event because she was attending her son’s college graduation out of town.

Three nights later at the 2010 American Business Awards, Executive Vice President James Clement was named the Stevie® Winner for Executive of the Year in the Services category for companies with up to 2,500 employees. The awards were held at the New York Marriott Marquis in New York City on Monday, June 21, 2010.

Gerding and Clement co-founded and launched HeiTech Services, Inc. in October 1999 from the basement of her home.
